Named "Big Red", Fords Gas Turbine was a towering super-transport prototype. After its debut in 1964, it made several cross-country runs at costs comparable to diesel operation. The 600 horse power gas turbine engine that powered "Big Red" was developed and produced by Ford under a contract with the Department of Defense
